Honor Roll Fall 2016

School in the Square kicked off the second trimester with a Celebration of Achievements to recognize the impressive accomplishments of S2 students in our founding trimester. Scores of S2 community members participated in this inaugural occasion, including many of our dedicated parents who surprised their students at the special event!

The assembly initiated a new tradition of celebration, an S2 value that we are delighted to share with our families.

Proud parents chatted over breakfast in the WorkLab while PrimeTime teachers, S2 leaders and non-instructional staff ushered students into the Dining Hall on Monday morning.

Mr. Meyers offered words of welcome before the math team introduced the first award to Nathaniel Ceballos, S2 Scholar of Distinction in Math.

The community cheered enthusiastically as Nathaniel came up to accept the award. He returned to his seat as smiling peers congratulated him and then silently looked to the stage, where Ms. Paul was poised to introduce S2 Scholars of Distinction in Science.

S2 Scholars of Distinction are students who earned a 90% or higher in a given subject. As our students know, this is no small feat at S2; earning an “A” requires commitment, hard work, and perseverance.

The genuine congratulations that peers, families, and S2 staff offered these deserving students affirmed the S2 School Spirit and our culture of care!

Our culture of care is something we celebrate in addition to our 35 Scholars of Distinction; 23 students with perfect attendance; nine Honor Roll students who earned an 85% or higher in every class; and Jedi Batista, S2’s High Honors Scholar, who earned a 90% or higher in every class! See the full list of S2 honorary scholars below!

Ms. Kovarsky’s ELA students wrapped up the event with a reading of some of the poems they have published on the class blog. In between the applause that followed each poem, the poet’s voice was the only sound one could hear.

After the ceremony, S2 families enjoyed a second round of breakfast while parents were photographed with their accomplished children. The joyful occasion made all of us proud to be S2 - #s2rongertogether .
