School in the Square celebrated Thanksgiving this year by having our first ever turkey trot! Students joined faculty and staff at Jay Hood Wright Park for a race to see which students could run the most laps. Lauren Santos and Dwanny Tavarez won first place and displayed amazing stamina and endurance over the hilly track. The students had an excellent time, and we were all so impressed by everyone’s teamwork! Perhaps one of the greatest highlights was Daniel carrying Anthony across the finish line displaying the traits of a team player and a true friend. After the Turkey Trot, the students gathered in the dining hall with their families for a potluck thanksgiving feast! Families brought their favorite dishes. The room was decorated with wreaths created by paper cutouts of the students’ hands as well as statements of gratitude. Before everyone started eating, we were treated to an excellent performance by the S2 Step Team. It was the girls’ first performance, and their performance was met with a standing ovation.

During the meal students presented what they were thankful for. One student Henry said his group was thankful for, “A loving school community that helps each other to become a better person by being more mindful and more caring”. Overall our school community: students, families, and staff had a wonderful afternoon celebrating their gratitude for one another.
