Board of Directors


  • Scott Levenson, Board Chair

    Scott is the Managing Partner of Private Prep, a premier education company providing one-on- one tutoring, test prep and college admissions services. In this role, Scott oversees Private Prep’s centralized business functions to ensure the delivery of a promise to help students, parents and staff learn to thrive. Scott also manages Private Prep’s strategic growth into new geographic markets and lines of service. In the past three years, Private Prep has made the Inc 5000 list for fastest growing privately held companies and ranked in the top 15 within Education. Scott’s experiences in education began during his high school years where he helped struggling elementary school students from low-income neighborhoods with their schoolwork. After graduating with a B.A in Political Science from Emory University, Scott moved back to Washington DC to work as an analyst at MCG Capital and mentored inner-city high school seniors as part of the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund program. Scott also holds an MBA from Emory, where he graduated with honors.

  • Michelle DeLong, Chair, Governance Committee; Secretary

    Michelle has focused her intellectual and philanthropic efforts on education. She is the Board Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Aid College Prep Charter School and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Masters School. Michelle began her career as a lawyer litigating at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine and Moore. She then became a federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of New York for 5 years. Michelle ran the Greenacres Afterschool program, served on the PTA executive board of Greenacres Elementary School and was the treasurer of the Scarsdale Middle School PTA. She also served on the executive board of the Scarsdale Young Writers Workshop. Michelle holds an AB from Harvard College and a JD from Harvard Law School.

  • Mindy Tucker, Treasurer

    Mindy Tucker is Chief Financial Officer of Meritage Properties LLC, a value-oriented owner and operator of office properties primarily focused on the Boston to Washington, D.C. corridor. Mindy joined Meritage in 2011, bringing over 27 years of experience in corporate finance and investor relations, including debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning and corporate development. Mindy is responsible for all capital markets and transaction relationships, accounting and investor relations. For the previous nine years, she was responsible for investor relations at Crown Media Holdings. Prior to that, she served for ten years in corporate development involving entertainment and real estate properties at various Sony companies, including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Retail Entertainment and Loews Cineplex Theatres. Mindy began her career in investment banking holding positions at Smith Barney and subsequently Prudential-Bache. Mindy holds a B.A. from University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Molecular Genetics for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

  • Scott L. Gottlieb, Chair, Real Estate Committee

    Scott L. Gottlieb is one of New York City’s outstanding brokerage professionals, with a nearly two- decade record of assisting corporate clients in meeting their real estate needs and helping landlords to market and lease office space. Mr. Gottlieb was named a Vice Chairman of CBRE in May 2003, as the youngest member of the firm ever to hold this title. He is a recipient of the industry’s most prestigious honor – the Real Estate Board of New York’s “Deal of the Year” award – for his work on behalf of Viacom International. In addition to Viacom, Mr. Gottlieb has developed strategic real estate solutions for corporate clients, including Universal Music, Inc., Macy’s, CBS Broadcasting Inc., and Major League Baseball. Mr. Gottlieb began his real estate career at Cushman & Wakefield in 1985. In 1992, he was the top-producing salesperson for C&W nationally. He joined Edward S. Gordon Company in 1993 (Edward S. Gordon Company became Insignia/ESG in 1997), as a Managing Director and has consistently been among the firm’s top 1% of producers. Mr. Gottlieb began his professional career at Ernst & Whinney, as a member of the New York Audit Group.

  • Joel Talish, Chair, Development Committee

    Joel is the founder of Cognetic Capital Advisors LLC. He is a Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®) and Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) with almost 30 years of investment and money management experience within the global capital markets. Since 2014, Joel has appeared annually on the Financial Times “FT400” list, which recognizes the nation’s top financial advisors. He has extensive investment management consulting experience, with a particular expertise in Alternative Investments, along with the formation of investment policy statements and the selection and due diligence of unaffiliated asset managers. Joel received his undergraduate degree from Hobart College and earned his CIMA® Certification from the Wharton School of Business. As a member of IMCA (Investment Management Consultants Association), Joel strives to stay at the forefront of the investment management consulting field. He is active in coaching youth athletics, supports Swim Across America and is a former elected official of Scarsdale’s Citizens Nominating Committee, which selects candidates for the village’s Board of Trustees.

  • Michael Pollack, Finance Committee

    Michael Pollack is a Managing Director at JP Morgan in Asset & Wealth Management where he is the Global Head of Investment Performance. Prior to this role, Michael was a Managing Director in the Corporate and Investment Bank also at JP Morgan. Before joining JP Morgan he was a Managing Director and Divisional CFO at Citigroup where he led the reengineering of the capital markets operations. Prior to Citigroup, Michael was the CEO at Pollack Consulting Group, an independent management consultancy that assists clients with their most difficult strategy, operational, and technology issues. Michael also held senior roles at American Express and Booz & Company (now part of PwC). Michael has had a lifelong involvement in education and children. At Princeton, he was a Teaching Assistant in the Computer Science department and, as a young professional, he was a Big Brother in New York City. For many years, Michael coached youth soccer and baseball. He was on the Board of the Scarsdale Teen Center and he was both a Member and the Chair of the Scarsdale School Board Nominating Committee. Michael also volunteered for the Children’s Aid Society where he worked with the senior management team to develop goals for the organization. Michael earned his BA, Magna Cum Laude, in Computer Science from Princeton University and his MBA in General Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Michael also received a certificate in Public Management while at Stanford.

  • Peter Gatof, Development Committee

    Peter A. Gatof formerly served as the Executive Vice President of i3 Verticals, LLC . a technology and payment processing company. Previously, Mr. Gatof served as CEO of US Data Capture, Inc. (USDC), a credit card transaction processing company he founded in 1992. In 2013 USDC was acquired by i3 Verticals. Prior to USDC, he served as the Vice President of Coronet Realty Corporation, a NYC-based real estate company where he was responsible for the acquisition of multi-family development projects in the New York tri-state area and lending activities via Coronet Capital Corporation. He also served as Vice President of Diversified Realty Holdings, Ltd. a New York City-based real estate company, where he was responsible for the acquisition of 50 multi-family properties and converting these properties to co-operative and condominium ownership. Prior to, he served as a senior management consultant in the management consulting division of Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Gatof has served as Chairman of the Board of The Albert Einstein College of Medicine Men’s Division, Vice Chairman of the Board of The Scarsdale Board of Architectural Review, Treasurer and Vice President of the board of trustees of The Westchester Reform Temple and member of the Board of Trustees of The Fenway Golf Club. He holds a Master of Business Administration in finance and management systems from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Emory University.

  • Walter Rendon, M.A., Governance Committee

    Walter G. Rendon is the CEO of Educational Achievement, LLC, which he founded two years ago. He also works as an educator and consultant in the New York City Department of Education. Walter has nearly 20 years of business and educational experience. He has spent a decade working for business and financial institutions such as Merrill Corp. and Credit Suisse First Boston, managing in Equity Research and later branching out and privately consulting. Walter has also worked in the field of education for nearly a decade, as a teacher in the Bronx, mentor and consultant. His unique blend of financial and educational work experience has led him to his current position. Walter offers a practical knowledge of both pedagogy and business, the nature of learning and education, as well as insight into the 21st century student.

  • Alan Dichter, Ex Officio

    Alan is an experienced educational leader, with a strong background in facilitative leadership development and high school reform. Alan has extensive building and district leadership experience (including HS Principal and Local Instructional Superintendent in NYC and Director of Leadership Development for Portland Public Schools) as well as over 20 years of designing professional development programs focused on leadership and effective collaboration. Alan has more than 25 years’ experience with national school reform efforts including the Coalition of Essential Schools, the Annenberg Institute and the School Reform Initiative. He is co-author of The Power of Protocols and Going Online with Protocols as well as numerous articles on leadership and school reform. Alan is currently the Affinity Group Leader for 23 NYC Public 6-12, 9-12 and 9-14 schools. These schools have a unique partnership with the City University of New York.

  • Dr. Mara Minguez, Board Member

    Mara Minguez, MD.  MSc currently serves as the  Assistant Chief Medical Officer for Community Affairs at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In this role, she is responsible for developing and strengthening existing relationships with NYPH communities including; Elected Officials, Community Based Organizations, Community Health Partners, and Community Physicians. 

     

    She has been a faculty member since 2007, and has an existing appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the Mailman School of Public Health and is board-certified in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. She is a clinical preceptor at a school-based health center located in a busy Bronx high school, where she is responsible for the clinical care of adolescents as well as the teaching of medical students,  pediatric residents, and adolescent medicine fellows. 


    Dr.  Minguez has been involved in research evaluations that have demonstrated the impact of school-based health centers on reproductive health and preventive care services in adolescents in New York City and has conducted a comprehensive assessment of school-based health centers in the Dominican Republic.

     

    Additionally, Dr. Minguez is the Medical Director of the Lang Youth Medical Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital, a 6-year medical enrichment program for underserved junior/high school students in the Washington Heights/Inwood community in New York City. In this role, she advises regarding curriculum, coordinates partnerships with professional organizations, and oversees program evaluation.


    The wellbeing of medically underserved adolescents and an increase of minority representation in the medical field are a few examples of  Dr. Minguez's focus, inspiration, and passion.  

  • Andrew Cavanna, Board Member

    Andrew Cavanna is a Partner and Co-Head of Healthcare at Apax Partners. He joined Apax in 2017 and is based in New York. Andrew serves on the board of Eating Recovery Center (ERC), Kepro and InnovAge and previously served on the board of Genex. Andrew is also a Board Member of the Cornell College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Council. 


    Prior to joining Apax, Andrew spent eleven years at Vestar Capital Partners where he was a Managing Director and Co-Head of the Healthcare Sector. At Vestar, Andrew was involved with a number of investments including Press Ganey, Essent Healthcare, StayWell, Joerns Healthcare, Sunrise Medical, Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and Veritas Collaborative. Andrew came to Vestar in 2006 from The Blackstone Group. Prior to Blackstone, Andrew was a Senior Associate at JPMorgan Partners. Andrew started his career as an Analyst in Leveraged Finance at Merrill Lynch.


    Andrew holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA, cum laude, in Economics and Government from Cornell University.

  • Lucy Vasserman, Board Member

    Lucy leads Engineering and Product at Jigsaw, a unit within Google focused on technology to make people safer. Jigsaw's focus areas include misinformation & hate, violent extremism, and censorship & cybersecurity. Prior to leading Engineering and Product, Lucy led Jigsaw's Perspective API project, which uses machine learning to spot abuse and harassment online. Lucy joined Google in 2010, after graduating from Pomona College, and prior to the Jigsaw team Lucy worked on speech recognition and Google Shopping.


    Lucy is passionate about education and spent fall 2015 teaching computer science full-time at Xavier University in New Orleans through the Google in Residence program, a partnership between Google and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. She also served on the Board of Advocates for Citizen Schools, a national non-profit that provides hands-on, career-focused learning experiences for middle schoolers.
