Serving 9th Grade
(9th-10th Grade 2025-2026)
12 Sherman Avenue
NY, NY 10040
School in the Square High School's academic offerings – including college-level courses – are unparalleled for the neighborhood, as is our beautiful new School in the Square High School campus, which opened its doors to our founding 9th grade class in the fall of 2024-2025.
Our team of faculty and staff are dedicated to delivering an exemplary college preparatory program and fostering an inclusive culture that supports and challenges each student’s academic growth and accountability, social-emotional development and sense of community responsibility.
High School students will have the opportunity to graduate as bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural young people.
Our high school students develop a strong graduate profile of competencies and skills through demonstrable mastery of cumulative coursework across all disciplines – mathematics, sciences, English language arts, social studies, and “the essentials” – oral history, PE/sports, visual and performing arts. Instruction is highly personalized through co-teaching and small groups.
Students complete comprehensive coursework across academics, Spanish, and civic agency to work towards rigorous New York State Diplomas and Endorsements and seals, including the Regents Diploma, the Seal of Biliteracy, and the Seal of Civic Readiness.
Students work actively to develop a responsible community culture through “Placita” advisory groups with an emphasis on social-emotional learning, actively exploring and applying the International Baccalaureate attributes of successful learners and community service.
Opportunities to round out their classroom experiences include: participating in student government leadership, competitive sports and clubs, learning off-campus through field trips and travel, as well as opportunities to pursue independent studies and even internships.
Students will participate in innovative internships and community service projects through public and private partnerships that will build connections and open doors to future professional opportunities.
As at all of our campuses, we also offer enrichment for high schoolers through our after-school program in the arts and sciences.
Among our goals is a plan to extend Dual Language English-Spanish programming beyond our elementary school into both the middle school and high school in order to provide a continuity of advanced Spanish language study.
Founded in 2024 with our 9th grade class and located at
12 Sherman Avenue across from beautiful Fort Tyron Park, our newly constructed high school encompasses the first three floors of a gleaming new high-rise, offering approximately 60,000 square feet of state-of-the-art classrooms, a huge research/media center, a soaring-height, full-size gymnasium and theater, a spacious full-service cafe and multi-purpose area and inviting indoor "public squares" that foster collaboration.
